That there are just x plus 1 themes, that a story has a prime of 7 characters; that all editing is iteration- you clean up till the incremental effort is no longer worth your time; that is Manil Suri’s take on the connect in writing and maths. (Mumbai Mirror, May 7)
Somehow one has viewed tales as patterns, aberrations or breaks in pattern really, a delta on the normal, the expected, and the liberty to spin a yarn on the reasons thereof. Is there a connect between biology and writing?

Absolutely! I think it is in the blood. Like any other artist, I believe writers write because they must express those feelings that would otherwise ferment and burst into confusion, or what have you.
I suppose writers express more than just their feelings. But I still say they simply must.

Hi Aust,
With iteration, delta, prime numbers. x plus one ... i would think it is Math and writing :)

Hi,Austy..yup..writing (and reading, too) runs in the blood...comparing writing with maths,though..*muses*...well,I add to my knowledge/vocab,subtract the negative thoughts, multiply the happy thoughts, divide my tensions, courtesy writing, especially on blogs!
i think so cos they say it is in the genes and it is Biology. :-)
I'm not so good with math, so I'll stick with saying writing..hearing the words prime and X works me up in a tissy!!
Always,
Elizabeth
i don't know.
my father was brilliant in maths, he taught me to never go anywhere without a book, yet, he hated to have to write.
i look at anything with numbers and shudder in fear.
words... i wish i could put them on a huge bed and roll in them.
Numbers, the bane of my existance. This existance that had me working in stocks and trading for a good 6 years...
Thankfully I realized I needed something less numberical and more creative, although how I ended up writing at a site that make me COUNT sentences is ironic.
:)
*Numerical* forgive my spelling, Minions are screaming.
more wars and during prayers,..I'm sorry to have read this awful thing that occurred today.
My support to your land.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
