I’ve been grinning all morning.
All you need is one chance, right?
One break.
One person earning and then the family can latch on and then the momentum takes them to another place.

Umeed, a short non-free program that retrains people from the slums for jobs in malls, shops, the new economy. Seriously smart.

Can't open the link - but sounds smart indeed!
i have heard about umeed, they do good work
That's so nice.Wish there were more such programs, rather than politically backed ones.:)
Really a good hope for people who really need it, many a times its just that people lack opportunities & such things come really like a God sent one - aptly called Umeed...great work!
Hi Austy!
When I was in Bangalore some years ago, I met with several good Indian organiztions there making a differance in their communities.
As an American, we only hear about the American organizations that go into other countries to "do good", but many of them are not without their own agendas as well, Usually religious-based as I'm sure you already know.
Take Care,

Tamanna- does good to read about people taking a chance on life.

amit- makes for happier reading too, doesn't it?
nimh- true. the social worker- evangelist. but I'm ok with that if it offers a means to break free of poverty. great to see you here.
how mercenary of me!
"To stand on own feet" one of the ladies saied. Exactly. The slums and the urbanization will have a great impact on the society, we will see a lot of chance in the coming twenty years. A giant adventure. I really hope that there is an Indian Way. This future will change all parts of society, hopefully peaceful and based on insight.
Hopefully peaceful.
Please google for "Naxalites" and "Maoists"-- only to be found in India, and creating havoc.
So yes, economic prosperity, opportunity, inclusive growth or the volcano of suppressed fury.
